The Scheme (in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering) encourages the most able young people to consider engineering as a career by taking a professional engineer and teaming up five to six high ability students to tackle a real engineering problem.
How does the Scheme Work? Starting in October, the company provides an engineering project and the team of five or six high-ability students work on the project over a five month period. They work with a contact teacher and the company nominates a contact engineer to provide guidance when necessary. After initial brainstorming and planning at school, teams come together around Christmas time at one of the universities in Wales for a workshop. Significant progress is normally made at this stage when the students have access to the university facilities and expertise. Back at school, the treams refine their solutions before submitting a formal report, mounting an exhibition of their work and presenting their findings to a panel of professional engineers at the Awards and Presentation Day just before Easter. Manage your project on-line (Link to notes on project management system) You can choose to use this web site as the centre of your project record keeping / working. This minimises visits to the company and enables all team members to share the work in progress instantaneously. |
